btw, nice icon. to etc on plexiglass, you use a sharp metal tool that's just a sharp point. then you pretty much draw the picture on just like if it were a pen drawing. then you put ink on the plexiglass and then wipe it off. any ink that was in the lines wont get wiped off. then you use a printing press to get the image onto wet paper. pretty simple and fun. This one was a color transfer, so i also printed watercolor washes over the print.
I was going to ask if you wiped the ink on over the black, but you answered my question in another reply.
The lines are nice the way they fill the shadows. Was this a dry point?
not sure what a dry point is. I've only done an etching once, I usually do silkscreen and linoleum prints. The dark brown ink and the paper was wet during the first pressing. then the second time, the watercolor was dry and the paper with the image on it was wet. hope that explains it.
A dry point is when you don't cut really deep into the surface and the ink technically catches on the "burr" of the line. If all you do is cut deep, it's technically an engraving. An etching is when you use acid to etch the lines. Sorry, studied printmaking for 3 years. This stuff is engrained in me.
I've used a process similar to what you're talking about, expect I was using aquarelles in lieu of watercolor. I just like knowing processes and what-not. Nice print!
